Parents Who Believe In Faith-Healing Charged With Child’s Death
A 15-month-old little girl is dead because her parents believe in faith-healing and their church preaches against medical care. The parents face criminal charges with the death of their child, who died from an untreated infection. The Worthingtons could face more than six years if convicted on the manslaughter charges and up to a year on the mistreatment charges.
The parents, Carl & Raylene Washington, belong to the Followers of Christ Church, whose members have a history of treating gravely ill children only with prayer. Ava, the 15-month-old little girl, died on March 2nd of pneumonia and a blood infection. These are treatable illnesses that could have been easily cleared up with antibiotics.
There was also a benign cyst that was found to have been hindering the little girl’s breathing that was never medically addressed.
